A MUST DO WORKSHOP WITH ANDREW WALFORD

If anyone is interested in topping up their love for ceramics and learning a few more tips and tricks then I would highly recommend that you gather together 4 of your friends and do what I did… take a leisurely drive up to Shongweni and visit the Oracle himself. What this man doesn’t know – doesn’t exist. Unfortunately, we only had one day to try and tap into this absolutely fascinating fountain of knowledge.
We had the most interesting day at Andrew’s studio. No stone was left unturned, from harvesting clay to wedging to throwing and slab building and brush strokes we got it all in living colour. It was then time to don our aprons and get our hands dirty.  After Andrew gave us an effortless looking demonstration he then let us loose on his wheels and I took the opportunity to throw on the enormous kick wheel that his brother Russell had made for him. Russell had a thriving furniture business in Peacevale, he also had Jersey cows and sold milk to Hubertos Ice Cream.
Over all, a very challenging and exhausting day. Although Andrew looked like he had just gotten started as he and his wife Leanda waved to our departing car.

JOHN SHIRLEY WORKSHOP – POSTPONED
Unfortunately John had a car accident and has had to postpone our workshop.
Our get well wishes go out to him and also Garth Hoets.  We wish him  a speedy recovery from a  recent setback.
Hope you’re back in the studio really soon Garth.
