Eggs Brass-Bound, Riveted, and Suspected of Mischief

R4,500.00

Collective Description
The present set comprises seven oviform constructions of notable weight and density, their surfaces entirely encrusted with bolts, plates, pipes, and apertures. Unlike natural eggs, which conceal yolk and albumen, these appear to shelter mysteries of mechanical persuasion — whether engines, automatons, or bottled thunder is left to conjecture. In their grouping they resemble the brood of a fantastical iron-hen, more suited to the forge than the farmyard.
1. Entry No. 3471 — The Perpetual Egg of Cogitation
Devised, it is said, for the encouragement of philosophical thought. Emits a soft hum in solitude, believed to be the sound of its thinking.
(Egg with green gage and multiple red wires)
2. Entry No. 3473 — The Cautionary Oviform Chronometer
Bearing upon its belly a dial of uncertain calibration and painted with the stern admonition “CAUTION.” Believed to measure not time but the patience of its keeper, expiring always five minutes too soon.
(Red Iron oxide egg with wingnut)
3. Entry No. 3474 — The Pneumatical Egg of Whispers
Wreathed in tubes and valves. Whispers secrets at midnight, though only to felines.
(Egg with large hydraulic conduit tube)
4. Entry No. 3475 — The Clockwork Ovule of Perpetual Winding
Topped with a key of generous proportion. Demands winding endlessly yet never completes its course.
(Clockwork key egg with 3 cogs)
5. Entry No. 3477 — The Oviform Device of Indeterminate Purpose
A miscellany of plates and wheels. No known function. Recorded only as “To Delight and Baffle.”
(Clockwork key with multiple cogs)
6. Entry No. 3594 — The Egg of Obscure Calibrations
Its shell is plated with dials, gauges, and metering’s of no known scale. Though consulted by several surveyors, no agreement could be reached as to whether it measured pressure, fortune, or the weather.
(Copper carb egg with twin dials and pipes)
7. Entry No. 3595 — The Bolt-Encrusted Oviform Bastion
A fortress in miniature, entirely crusted with fastenings as if to prevent some inner occupant from escaping. A clerk remarked, “It rattled once, and we did not ask again.”
(jigsaw bolted egg)
